4/20
Hey everybody how’s it going? It’s 4/20 today and I am
celebrating by staying home smoking pot, adoring the little puss (my cat
formerly known as Shy. She’s not shy anymore, and I always call her the little
puss as opposed to the big puss, who was formerly known as Shadow. Though
he still casts quite a formidable shadow, I’ve grown fond of calling him
the big puss. Of course the name change is unofficial. When we went to city
hall the clerk couldn’t locate the necessary paperwork, though we insisted
he look through every single form they have at City Hall. It took the better
part of a sweltering hot day, with him grumbling under his breath as if we
couldn’t hear, something about “crazy motherfuckers” and “this jobs sucks.”).
I’ve been enjoying working on The Bong Show, formerly
called Show Show. Last night I saw the finished version of a skit we just
shot, a parody of Psycho where Lars tries to kill me with a big “L” because
he hates me and my script, “Big Foot vs Santa Claus,” a new twist on the
Bigfoot as a porno star alien living in LA script I try to push on the other
writers in an earlier scene. It was an honor to reenact the famous shower
scene. I have so much fun doing The Bong Show, I love all the people I work
with on the show. I hope some of you get to see it someday.
One of our skits, “Nugget, the Crime-solving cat with
ESP” has been selected to be in the SF Gay and Lesbian International film
festival, playing on June 17th at 1:30 at the Victoria Theater on 16th near
Mission. We (as of 5/13) will premiere our new episode at the first annual
Radical Faerie Film Festival, June 9 at 848 Divisadero st. in San Francisco,
8 pm. I’ve been focalizing the film festival, which Haia and I thought of
one night over at his place. The criteria are intentionally broad to include
films “by or related to self-identified faeries,” so there are all kinds
of things in the mix. It’s going to be a good time with art and music and
maybe some noshing and I hope it encourages more people out there to make
movies.
The film festival, which will be on Saturday June 9th
at 8 pm, 848 Divisadero st in San Francisco, leads up to the 2nd annual Faerie
Freedom Village, which I am working on again this year with Owen, Scooterpie,
Haia, Jokie, Garrin Benfield, Jallen Rix, newby Paul Smochek and lots of
other wonderful freaks. This year’s village will have a no-talent show and
a Miss Faerie Freedom pageant, drag makeovers, body painting, art display
and creation, music (bring instruments), ritual, free food, cuddling, shade,
and sunshine. Last year we won “Most fabulous showing of theme” along with
a few other groups. This year it’s just going to be better.

So I changed my mind and decided to go back on my HIV
meds. The thing is, when I decided to quit it felt good and I thought I’d
be better at trying alternative therapies but I wasn’t, and not doing anything
felt like a form of denial. Maybe I’ll take a break again someday, I’m certainly
not the first person to do this sort of thing. The thing that really made
me decide to go back was that my cool doctor from the Tom Waddell clinic
called me to check in. He is leaving the clinic soon and it’s been a while
since I’ve been there. I went on Monday and got my blood drawn, and remembered
that Tom Waddell is full of interesting freaks and quite wonderful doctors
and nurses.
Not much else to say right now although there is much
going on internally and externally. On Sunday a bunch of us sat around and
picked the films for the Radical Faerie Film Festival, and I think it’s going
to be a fun evening. I’m just not feeling very motivated to spill my guts
here right now, but just wanted to check in and let you know all is well.
I’m psyched because over memorial day weekend I’ll be going back up to Camp
& Sons and hanging with the same freaks I raved about last year. God
am I overdue for a trip out of the city. I love it here but damn, unsupervised
fun in the sun, here I come.
One thing I have to say, damn you suck, US Supreme Court,
give me back my medical marijuana. And you too George Bush, I can’t wait
until it’s time to vote your shitty ass out of office.
